So I whipped up a DIY studded dress to wear out last weekend! It’s easy, especially if you have an LBD to start with. All you need is a pair of scissors, some studded trim—I bought mine in the garment district, but you can check online trimming supply stores or Etsy—and about 2-3 hours.

Step 1. Start with a little black dress that has sleeves (short or long).

Step 2. Cut semi-circle shapes out of the shoulders. You may want to put the dress on and mark the edges of the shape with pins, or wing it like I did.

Step 3. Cut the sleeves off. Also a good idea to mark this with a pin in advance, and cut an inch longer so you can turn the edge up and top stitch to secure it.

Step 4. Use a whip stitch or a straight stitch to attach the trim to the edge of the fabric. First, I turned the edge under and did a running stitch to secure it. This can be done in about 5 minutes on the machine or 20 minutes by hand.

Step 5. Add some lipstick! (optional ;D)

Have fun and let me see what you DIY this week! I’ll be posting more projects throughout NYFW so we can all transform our closets into amazing treasure chests of style rather than going out and buying more clothes.

Frugally yours…
